Access to education

Despite the introduction of free primary education in Kenya, the enrollment rates in the northern rangelands and Southern Ethiopia still remain low. The situation is worse for the girl child as a result of cultural beliefs and practices. The harsh environmental condition in the area which results to migration has also affected retention rates especially for girls beyond class four.

To achieve meaningful results there is also need to build the capacity of the communities to appreciate not only education but also the fact that development and the future is in their hands. CIFA has developed strategies to address these issues and hopes to achieve the following key results.

  • An improved performance.
  • Improved enrolment due to improved infrastructure.
  • Improved retentions rate and transition.
  • Enhancement of the communities capacity for lobbying and advocacy.
