Livestock and crop production
Livestock health management and crop production are some of the key strategic areas in which CIFA has identified for support. CIFA has in the past supported training of Community Animal Health Workers. The trained officials in turn treat and vaccinate livestock in collaboration with the existing livestock officers in the region. In addition, CIFA constructs surface dams along livestock marketing routes. CIFA also facilitates setting up of mini-diaries in selected market centres.
CIFA has amassed a wealth of experience in the livestock sector and is one of the best placed NGO’s to offer support in livestock development in Northern Kenya and Southern Ethiopia. Key result areas expected in this theme include the following.
- Mortality rates of livestock reduced.
- Training modules and train CAHW on disease control formulated and implemented.
- Best animal husbandry adopted.
- Increased livestock off-take in all project areas.
- Livestock trading culture increased in all project areas.
- Improve disease reporting and surveillance system.
